The wedding industry saw a sharp decline in business in 2020 thanks to the Covid-19 Pandemic. While this left vendors, venues, and facilitators in the lurch last year, it has them double booking their time this year.

This year, it’s more important than ever for couples planning a wedding to go into the process well informed and knowing what to expect. So here are seven super simple dos and don’ts to get you through what is guaranteed to be a memorable year for weddings.

DO Remain Flexible

This year the name of the game is flexibility.  Weekend dates were likely offered to the wedding parties who had to postpone in 2020.  So go into the planning process just accepting the likelihood of a weekday wedding. Make the most of it by asking about special pricing and packages many venues are offering as a way to streamline the planning process.

DON’T Postpone Locking in Service

With double the demand, venues, vendors, and service professionals are being booked quickly.  Do your research and ask for recommendations, but if you get the chance to book in with someone you want to work with, grab the opportunity.

DO Ask About Precautions and Protection

Depending on where you live and the size of your wedding, you may need to adhere to local guidelines or laws. Ask about these issues up front to understand what it required of you, what to expect and get an idea of how prepared vendors are. When talking to venues, ask about their cleaning protocols and any other concerns you may have.

DON’T Sign Anything Without Reading it Thoroughly

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, many venues have changed the wording on their cancellation policies. Make sure you understand your rights if something should happen that alters your plans for the day. It is also a good idea to consider cancellation insurance, depending on your total wedding investment.

DO Keep it Small

Smaller weddings are likely to be the norm for the next year or so. Hybrid approaches have developed from different venues that allow some people to attend in person and others to watch via a live stream.  Discuss options on scaling things up should restrictions lessen as the day approaches, but plan for the rules of today.

DON’T Lose Sight of What Matters

Let’s face it: We’ve all come through something together.  2020 was rough for everyone and this year is filled with people looking to make up for lost time. In order for us all to have the chance to celebrate, we’re going to need to be willing to work together, to change our plans, and to remember it’s a day about love.
